By Flora Tramontano,
Product Manager - IBM Tivoli Workload Automation .
In a recent blog, it’s been said that IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS (TWSz) v9.2 version simplifies the integration between different tools in the data center (see here).
Do you want to see an example of that? If so, go ahead, and read how v9.2 has changed the day-by-day activity of Jason, a TWSz operator.
Jason works for a multinational manufacturing company, in Europe, where TWSz is used to manage the value chain, from the claim to the delivery of products. Every day Jason monitors jobs and jobstreams, diagnose errors, and assigns them to appropriate departments, or fix them on his own. Very often, in the presence of a failed job, Jason needs to look at the historical behavior, to decide what to do next.
And here is exactly where v9.2 brings more value. Prior to v9.2, Jason submitted a request to Tom, the IBM Tivoli Output administrator, asking him to provide historical job logs of the failing job. Jason had to wait for the request to be satisfied, and only then he could look at the job historical info, perform problem analysis, and research current and previous exceptions. With v9.2, instead, Jason has direct access to any job log, and his activity is speed up by however long it takes the ITOM admin to get his tasks done.
Additionally, thanks to this TWSz-ITOM integration, jobs no longer need to be on the current plan or in the datastore, in order to view their job logs.
“Thanks to TWS z/OS – ITOM integration we can save disk space while keeping outputs for a longer period of time” said Jason, who is very satisfied with the deployment of new v9.2 version of IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS!
