It's getting close to the time for IBM's annual application and systems conference - Innovate 2013 - the IBM Technical Summit. The theme for this year's event, held in Orlando, FL, 2-6 June, is “stay ahead” and the week promises to bring many exciting and informative messages to attendees.
I've been attending the IBM Innovate conferences for the past four years and I always find something new and interesting at the conference that I didn't know before I arrived. There are many chances to learn new skills, play around with some of the latest application development, testing, build, deployment and release automation, and other tools which can help application development teams more productive, work smarter, and be more effective on the projects they are responsible for. Whether you're a consulting team of three or a multi-national worldwide application development organization, there's something for you to get out of this conference. And the food and entertainment's not bad either.
For my part, I'll be speaking at the event in three different sessions as well as hosting a BOF session.
Here's some more details on these sessions:
Monday, 3 June, 4:15-5:15PM - SZ-2481 Ask the IBM System z Experts: Thought Leaders Converge to Discuss Enterprise Modernization Trends
I'll be a panelist for this “meet the experts” session. We're doing this session early in the week this year so that people get familiar with our faces early and can then stop us in the hall or in the expo area and ask us more questions as the week progresses.
Tuesday, 4 June, 12:15-1:15Pm - BOF-2588 Best practices for implementing Rational Development and Test Environment
I'll be co-hosting this BOF session with John Gates. Come to this session if you have questions about deploying a Rational Development and Test Environment or just want to learn about how others are using this exciting technology for System z application development.
Tuesday, 4 June, 1:45-2:45PM - SZ-1146 Old Dogs, New Tricks - It's All about the Information! Mobile Applications, Transactions, and Data Analytics
This session is going to be a fun one. I'll talk about mobile application development and how it is causing a renewed interest in enhancing, modifying, and refreshing applications that run on System z systems. I'll also spend some time talking about how business analytics are being used in the industry by combining information sources from both mobile and mainframe environments to discover trends and enhance customer experiences. We'll talk about data analytics tools and how to use them to provide deeper insight into customer behaviors as well as identify effects on the applications they use.
Wednesday, 5 June, 10:00-11:00AM - SC-1145 Costs and Benefits of Application Replacement
I'm co-presenting this session with Rick Slade. We'll talk about the touchy subject of appication replacement. We'll describe some methods and tools to use in evaluating your current application portfolio, identify candidates for replacement, and determining the best path to take to accomplish that replacement. We'll also spend some time talking about some of the warning signs to watch out for on application replacement projects.
But don't come to Innovate just for my sessions. Innovate 2013 is a great place to network with your peers and find out more about how to streamline your application development processes, tools, and operations. From writing code to continuous delivery to devOps and everything in between, Innovate 2013 has what you need to “stay ahead”.
