From San Diego to #ibmimpact 2013 ....

I hope you know what Impact is. If you don't, you can see read more about it at the conference website at: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/websphere/events/impact/index.html.
Personally, I am hoping to interact with many of IBM's customers and share with them how System z is integral to their Cloud, Data, Analytics, Mobile, and Security strategies. It's a mouthful for sure, but it's true. The System z mainframe platform can help Enterprise's do so much...I am sure I'll be sharing more in the upcoming days with recaps of sessions and special events covering these topics.
Impact 2013 is being held again at the beautiful Venetian in Las Vegas. It truly is an elegant hotel and resort casino. You can check out their website here: http://www.venetian.com.
The Venetian also has a stellar shopping experience with it's very own Venetian canal, lots of shops, and bistros.
Once I registered at the hotel and the conference, I headed right into the Impact 2013 Solution Center to be ready when it opened from 5pm to 7pm PST. My interest lied squarely in the Smarter Computing area right in the center of the show floor. It is truly a beautifully laid-out area with very large touchscreen monitors that really accentuate our product demonstrations and collateral. If you want to learn how to leverage cloud technologies, unlock the power of big data, and help secure your critical information (particularly on System z) this is the place to go.
Further, the Smarter computing team is doing something really cool by giving out VIP wristbands to attendees. The attendees can then make their rounds to the different areas to learn more about Smarter Computing and collect points. When they collect 8 points, they get a nice VIP giveaway! So check out the Smarter Computing area if you are in the Solution Center...It's worth your time :)
Over on the System z side of the Smarter Computing area, Penny, Cheryl, and Paige were smiling, but soon after they were registering over 300 attendees for the System z reception being held at the Tao Asian Bistro from 7:30pm to 9:30pm PST.
I had the not so fun job of holding hundreds of excited z reception attendees back until the Tao restaurant employees allowed us up into our private reception area. But once we were allowed in, Phil Weintraub, Vice President of zEnterprise Software Sales in North America promptly kicked the party off. It was great to see the strong IBM executive support for the z reception by such executives like Phil and Michael Perera, Vice President of WebSphere on System z.
The Tao really was a great place to have a party. It has lots of comfortable, casual seating areas with several surrounding bars. In addition, there were many servers walking around passing out some wonderful Asian cuisine.
