Banca Carige unlocks the growth potential of big data

For large enterprises with well-established, successful product lines, identifying customer demand for new offerings can be a tough proposition. If you’re at the helm of a company with hundreds of branches, thousands of employees and millions of customers, how do you identify the parts of the business with untapped potential?
Working with IBM, Italian bank Banca Carige found the answer. The company embarked on a big data project – converting the massive volumes of customer data stored in IBM DB2 databases on its IBM zEnterprise EC12 server into actionable insights using the IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator solution.
Today, Banca Carige has the ability to execute analytics queries faster than ever before – giving 1,000 decision-makers across the company concurrent access to real-time operational insights. Equipped with a fresh perspective on its business, the bank can make better decisions about product development, special offers and promotions – helping to attract new customers and reduce churn.
So, what’s next for Banca Carige? The company is investigating a range of applications for its big data platform. For example, IBM SPSS predictive analytics software could help the bank mine its data for hidden trends to drive its high-level strategic decisions. Similarly, deploying IBM Campaign software would enable the bank to increase the personalization of its multi-channel marketing touches – helping the company to forge a closer relationship with its customers through relevant, effective campaigns.
