Worldwide Marketing Manager .
When I walked into last year’s System z reception at Pulse, I was thinking of a quote from The Hunger Games -- "Let the odds be ever in your favor." Honestly, I was hoping I would be the last person standing and everyone would leave in an hour so I could get back to the pile of work that was waiting for me. Then I entered the ballroom at the MGM Grand.
I was immediately transformed into another city, populated by about 100 IBMers, customers and business partners. There were beads everywhere, women with dresses that served as tables for desserts, and New Orleans jazz filling the air. Okay, nice start, I thought.
I grabbed a drink and a small cheesecake and the first thing I heard was a joke:
A systems programmer was at lunch with some auditors.
The waitress asks the sysprog what he wants for lunch and he says, "Meatloaf."
She says: "What about the vegetables?"
The sysprog replies: "They can order for themselves."
I may have heard it before, but it still made me laugh.
Fast forward to this year and I’ll be there again at the Pulse reception, where the System z community can talk about subjects that matter to us – from automation to workload scheduling to world news. I appreciate the time spent with smart people who know their stuff, both IBMers and customers, and like last year, I expect I’ll come away energized with new ideas.
The reception is just one of the highlights of Pulse for those who work in System z environments. There are also 28 educational sessions on System z topics, and 16 of them feature analysts or IBM clients like you. One of my favorites has proven to be the “System z Meet the Experts” session where the IBM brain trust is well-represented with Distinguished Engineers, Fellows, and Master Inventors from all software brands, all in one panel and open to answer any question that relates to System z software. Let’s see if anyone can stump this year’s panel!
So enter into a world at Pulse where System z reigns supreme and learn what innovation is all about.
