I recently spoke to Kramer Reeves, the Director, Product Management, Messaging and Collaboration, who shared the exciting updates to IBM SmartCloud Notes.
With the Sep 1, 2013 update, we are introducing a new look and feel for IBM SmartCloud Notes web, including a rich calendaring experience and expertise search, which gives users the ability to quickly find anyone in the company based on minimal information. We have also added Advanced SPAM Management capabilities to control what gets to your users' inbox. Finally, we have continued to enhance the mobile experience, adding productivity boosters for i/OS devices, new security policies for Android devices, and support for the new Blackberry 10 devices.
2. How do these updates impact the customers,administrators and end users?
The capabilities are part of a broader portfolio of updates we have made to our Social Business platform, which is smart, simple, social and secure.
With this update to SmartCloud Notes, customers like Ricoh, one of the largest companies in Japan, and their end users will have an updated web based messaging experience with more capabilities to manage their inbox and collaborate with their peers. Ricoh uses IBM's SmartCloud for Social Business, including SmartCloud Notes and Engage, to improve their business processes and collaboration. Using the new SPAM management features allows Ricoh users to white list, blacklist, and report SPAM with a click of the button, right from their inbox. They can also leverage the new search capability to pull up user information on the fly, and navigate the entire company hierarchy quickly to find the person they are looking for.
For administrators, we have provided enhanced capabilities to control SPAM coming into the enterprise. Another feature admins will love is the ability to customize the look and feel of the web UI, even allowing them to tailor it for specific groups in the company. Finally, we continue to invest in improving the mobile experience by offering more device choices including Blackberry 10, and providing more security options for administrators.
3. Do customers have to take any specific actions to benefit from the updates?
All of the new capabilities are available as of Sep 1st to all existing customers. Most updates, including the new look and feel for the SmartCloud Notes web user interface are activated automatically to existing customers. Other capabilities, such as the SPAM management and enhanced user search feature, are available, but require activation by the customer.
4. What is the significance of the updates from a business value perspective?
These updates allow end users to work smarter, leverage the power of their network, and be productive while mobile. Customers will see these benefits immediately and will have more capabilities to customize the service to fit their needs.
5. How do these updates improve the services in comparison to our competitors?
With this update we are making it easier for end users to collaborate and for admins to manage the service. On the mobile front we are ahead of our competitors in providing a rich messaging experience across a multitude of devices, now including Blackberry10. Our competition does not have the same depth of mobile capabilities, nor do they have the same level of security options available “out of the box.” In addition, our competitors lack a truly social product suite and with our new service update, SmartCloud for Social business provides a rich integrated experience across messaging, collaborative document editing, and social tools.
