Earlier this year, IBM announced the opening of a European Data Center for SmartCloud for Social Business. That day has arrived, and IBM is open with lights on for customers who want a greater degree of control over their data in an environment designed to the privacy specifications and requirements specific to European Union countries.
The European deployment is based on the SoftLayer Infrastructure as a Service. SoftLayer is one of IBM’s most recent cloud acquisitions, one of the largest service providers in the world, and has more than 100,000 devices under management for 21,000 customers in 140 countries. At the heart of the SoftLayer service is a software platform that provides a complete operating system for the cloud data center – that automates every aspect of infrastructure as a service. In order to deliver the best experience for our customers – we chose this automated platform which is available at the highest possible service level as the basis of our European data center.
Our development teams have been pleased and impressed with the speed and flexibility of the SoftLayer service and we look forward to delivering many more cloud based offerings that can help us rapidly deliver cloud solutions to customers at the business grade standard they expect from IBM.
Adoption of Social Business in the cloud is accelerating with major enterprises like Sika, and smaller businesses alike. The need for trusted performance and security across social content and interactions has never been more important. Using SoftLayer as the basis of a European Data Center delivers a high degree of trust for IBM’s European customers.
Sika AG, a specialty chemicals company based in Switzerland, needed to share information faster among its employees across more than 80 countries as well as with its suppliers and customers. With IBM SmartCloud for Social Business, Sika can give 11,500 users across all lines of business operations an easy way to share ideas, improve productivity, fuel business innovation and more effectively reach customers and suppliers to boost sales, all while substantially lowering IT costs.
Based in France, the DB Apparel Group announced this week that they have chosen IBM’s cloud solution. The company needed greater flexibility to adapt to changing needs of the business and provide users with new collaboration services. With IBM SmartCloud, DBApparel is able to communicate and distribute business information, share applications, organize online meetings in real time and execute presentations to all business users, whether colleagues, clients or business partners. Services are available through smartphones, web browsers, tablets and rich clients; and meets DB Apparel’s needs for secure, rapid delivery – all for an affordable cost.
