May is National Bike Month and National Bike to Work Day is upon us on Friday, May 16th! (In the U.S., anyway.) Time to grease your gears, tighten your brakes, um … maybe check your sprocket or something?
OK, I don’t know much about bikes other than I love riding mine with my first-grader. But that’s alright, since I rely on the Performance Bicycle Learning Center when I'm having trouble changing gears.
The site came about when Performance Bicycle sought to build up its customer base via its online presence. The Chapel Hill, North Carolina (US) specialist retailer knew it had a tremendous asset in its passionate, knowledgeable employees. The question was, how to tap into that resource?
The answer was to build on the success of their IBM WebSphere platform and create a new space where employees could share their expertise with customers via videos, articles and how-to guides. Now, through the Learning Center, even cycling novices like me can, for instance, understand bottom brackets and cranksets (or even just learn how to change a tire).
The site has been a huge success for Performance Bicycle, which saw a 300% rise in web traffic in the first four months after the site went live, as well as an increase in sales courtesy of up to 20% higher conversion rates from the site compared to other online sources.
If you haven’t taken your bike for a spin in a while, let the Learning Center help you get it back in shape so you can hit the streets and trails. Just remember to obey traffic laws and always wear your helmet!
