It’s fair to say that creating, saving and sharing documents has become an integral part of most workdays. Personally, I like to start by creating a private draft to collect my thoughts. Then, I’ll share my draft with a small group of trusted coworkers. We’ll work together to finalize the document and then share it with a larger group. Sometimes, we’ll even need to share with other departments and communities. It’s a lot of people to loop in and a lot of feedback to sift through.
That’s why I’m thankful for IBM Connections and more specifically, IBM Docs. This true method of social file sharing makes it easy for me to create and edit documents using a web-based editor. When I’m ready to share my work with others, it’s only one ultra-secure click away without emailing the document. We also have true, real-time document co-editing capabilities. We can even co-edit using our iPads. And when the document is finished? I can instantly share it in a number of communities, all at the same time.
My document then lives on IBM Connections to gather comments, likes and tags from fellow IBMers and experts. As others access the file, I can see downstream re-sharing and the number of times my document has been read. This type of feedback helps me understand how others reuse my documents and what I can do to improve these metrics.
The best part is everyone involved in editing, sharing, commenting or following the file sees the updates in their IBM Connections activity stream. The document is updated in IBM Connections, people are notified automatically, and there are no more email ping-pong or version control issues. There is one version of the truth.
