Thank you for dropping by the Social Business Insights blog today. My name is Bruce Elgort and today I will be telling you about a few “photo” centric activities that you can participate in for Lotusphere and IBM Connect 2012. But first, let me tell you a little bit more about myself.
First off, I am an IBM Champion who is very involved with the IBM Collaboration Solutions Community. I am the Chairman of OpenNTF, the open source community, as well as one of the co-founders. I also started IBM Advanced Partner, Elguji Software, Inc. back in 2007. Elguji are the developers of the award winning IdeaJam software that you may heard of. For the past 7 years I have co-hosted the popular Taking Notes podcast. In my local community in the Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon areas I server as Board Member of the Clark County Skills Center and am a technology and event volunteer for the Children’s Cancer Association.
Photos help tell the story of many things and have been a big part of Lotusphere for years. People have shared their photos on Flickr and Facebook as well as other photo sharing sites. For this years conference there are two places where you can see the photos of others that I want to highlight. They are Instagram and Flickr.
Instagram is an iOS app that allows you to take photos and apply “filters” to them. The filters do some pretty cool things to make your photos look like you are a Photoshop professional, making them black and white, framing, and adjusting the focus on a part of the photo. You can then post your photo and it will be seen by your followers.
As for followers, Instagram helps you connect with your Twitter and Facebook friends who are using Instagram. You can also freely follow others on the service.
When you post your photo with Instagram be sure to include the #ls12 hash tag so it can be search for and be included in the Elguji Software Instagram aggregator. What does this Instagram aggregator do you ask? Well, it takes the last 20 photos tagged with #ls12 and displays them on an auto updating we page that you can view at http://elguji.com/instagram.nsf/elguji.xsp. You may have noticed the “.xsp” at the end of the URL. That’s because it was built with IBM XPages.
Chris Miller has also setup a Lotusphere 2012 Flickr group. This group can be access at ). You will have to “join” this group on Flickr in order to share your photos. Photos you add to this group should also be tagged with the– #ls12 has tag.
(Editors note: Post your photos to the official Flickr group at Flickr.com/groups./socialbizevents (Please join the group). The official photo stream for Lotusphere 2012 can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/socialbiz)
Well I hope you have fun taking lots of photos of the event and I look forward to seeing them, as well as you in Orlando. Please feel free to stop me and say hello.
