Q: Bethann, why is email still important to a social business?
With 11.4 trillion person-to-person email messages sent in 2009, and an expected 12.9 trillion to be sent in 2014, according to IDC, email is growing faster than ever.
Q: If email is actually growing, what does this mean for an organization's ability to retain and access their emails?
An organization's emails and social networking data are extremely important as they may face compliance regulations at any time. This is especially true for organizations in regulated industries. These businesses are looking for solutions that provide them with the ability to retain and access their communication and data at a moments notice.
To meet these needs, IBM today introduced IBM SmartCloud Archive Essentials, an email archiving solution that provides customers with the confidence of knowing their email is archived continuously while making the data accessible for compliance and e-discovery requirements.
Q: Can you tell us more about IBM SmartCloud Archive Essentials?
The solution is part of the IBM SmartCloud for Social Business portfolio. Using IBM SmartCloud Archive Essentials, every email sent and received can be archived, searched, and accessed in the cloud with no hardware or software installation required and no limits on storage capacity. Emails can be kept permanently or according to a customizable retention period, including "legal holds" for specific messages. The offering can help lower an organization's IT costs by streamlining compliance processes, and reducing IT tasks.
Email is still critical to business. In fact, the majority of organizations today consider email to be their most important, mission-critical application to their business, but they are feeling the increasing burden of compliance and legal discovery. With IBM SmartCloud Archive Essentials these customers can now manage retention of every email sent or received, and most importantly they can quickly and easily retrieve the information within these emails across the enterprise for compliance purposes in a secure, cloud environment from IBM.
