What is social business in the cloud?

The one thing that all organizations have in common is that they must all identify new ways to grow revenue and expand their businesses to stay competitive. Increasingly, organizations are using cloud computing and social business to help them embrace new market opportunities and speed time to market.
But what is social business? Please do not confuse this concept with companies having accounts on Twitter or fan pages on Facebook and LinkedIn.
It’s all about empowering corporate social networks and improving efficiency and productivity through the use of social tools. Companies want to transform themselves into a social business that embraces networks of people to create business value. This transformation requires improved employee engagement. That engagement is the result of a new culture that is based on open and social communications between executives and employees, as well as among all employee levels and different locations.
From my own experience, I believe that engaged employees make faster, better decisions and benefit from shared knowledge when teaming with experts to improve productivity and overall contributing to a more vital and exciting workplace.
For instance, I can start searching in my enterprise social network for the right resources to include in my project in Brazil. I can access these resources even if they are distributed globally. Having everyone collaborating together about the same topic means I can invite them to my web meeting room and start a video conference with peers from my product team based in Germany and start co-editing a document during the session.
After the video session I can create tasks for each member of the team, with automatically generated goals based on the meeting report, sharing important documents in the project’s community files.
