Guest post from John Kelly, IBM OpenPages Market Segment Manager, IBM Risk Analytics
Information on Demand/Business Analytics Forum 2012 – Las Vegas – You won’t find many places where risk/reward decision making is more prevalent than in Las Vegas. Seems fitting then that Business Analytics Forum – where a major theme of the conference is “delivering game changing results through business analytics” – is being held in Las Vegas.
In his keynote presentation on Monday, Les Rechan, general manager of IBM Business Analytics, discussed how analytics is moving from an IT initiative to a business imperative.
One area where this is increasingly true is in risk analytics where a dynamic risk and regulatory environment has driven a spike in risk and compliance data, and where solutions such as IBM OpenPages GRC and IBM Cognos Business Intelligence (BI) are extending risk intelligence from the risk and compliance offices to the business leader’s office
As the global regulatory landscape continues to shift and evolve, IBM is helping companies make risk-aware decisions that improve business outcomes while keeping pace with regulatory change. The IBM OpenPages GRC Platform offers unprecedented transparency into risks across the enterprise and promotes collaboration across business units with highly flexible and adaptable reporting.
Consider for example, the risk committee at fictitious ACME Corporation. They have been asked to risk-rank the capital spending projects for the following fiscal year.
Using the highly interactive reporting capabilities of IBM OpenPaqes GRC, they are able to score the projects based on the risk and control self assessment ratings on the business processes that will support each of the projects.
Based on their recommendation, ACME is able to allocate their capital to those projects with the highest expected return. And, integrated with the IBM Cognos family’s powerful unified business intelligence workspace and reporting capabilities (specifically in IBM Cognos Insight), IBM OpenPages is empowering business users to make smarter risk-informed decisions by turning risk information into insight and insight into better business outcomes.
Now that’s a winning hand.
