You may have recently seen IBM’s announcement of The Watson Group and its $1B commitment to the next generation of cognitive computing. I’d like to invite you to join us in developing one of the first products to come from this new group.
Inspired by the cognitive capabilities underpinning Watson, IBM Watson Analytics allows anybody in the organization to visually and iteratively explore their data without the need for any specialized analytical knowledge and then share their discoveries across the organization, enabling others to make evidence-based decisions in real time.
A simple plain-language question starts the discovery process. Using semantic analysis, Watson Analytics finds the right data and automatically presents the most compelling visualization to immediately begin exploring. With Watson Analytics, you will go from raw data to analysis in seconds.
What sets Watson Analytics apart is powerful predictive analytics used to analyze and understand your data. Easily consumable infographics populate Watson Analytics’ interface and surface important relationships and highlights in your data. They help guide your exploration to new areas of insight you might not have realized or even considered. Effectively, you can have an intelligent conversation with your data.

We have recently launched the beta program for Watson Analytics.
We’re very excited that our first few participants are actively exploring their data in Watson Analytics. Sometimes they are seeing what they expect and, frankly, sometimes they’re not. And that’s fantastic. While we can pat ourselves on the back when we hear comments like, “Oh, that’s pretty cool” and “I’d use that!” we also love hearing things like, “That didn’t really make sense to me” and “I expected it to behave this way.” Because that’s the feedback we can act on – that’s what makes our products better.
Does this mean you can take it for a test drive? Unfortunately, not quite yet. This truly is beta software.
We are continually adding new features and tweaking those that need a bit of a tune up. But we do expect to open up the beta to other participants soon.
Watson Analytics is currently a cloud-based solution. The advantage of cloud software is that it can be deployed much more rapidly than traditional on- premise software. That’s paying dividends in our beta program. We can take in feedback, turn around changes quickly and in the (hopefully unlikely!) event that we didn’t hit the mark, do it all again.
