IBM has released a new version of IBM Cognos Insight (V10.2), its personal analytics solution that empowers business users and analysts to explore, analyze, visualize and share insights from their own desktops without IT assistance.
The latest version includes new capabilities such as intelligent and automatic mapping of source data, enhanced chart interactivity and tree maps, which is a new visualization that enables the display of large volumes of data and the comparison of multiple items simultaneously.
In addition, IBM has released the IBM Cognos Insight Personal Edition, a free product for non-commercial use that allows anyone to easily import personal or business data from spreadsheets and comma separated value files (.csv), select visualizations of the data, drill down to discover trends and more. IBM Cognos Insight Personal Edition is available from AnalyticsZone.
As part of this Wave, Forrester said that IT can no longer support the majority of business intelligence (BI) requirements, and suggests that 80 percent of all BI requirements be carried out by the business users themselves.
The brand new Personal Edition is designed for organizations that are concerned they cannot provide the analytic capabilities (or resources) that the line of business – finance, marketing, sales, operations – might be demanding and instead can offer users the opportunity to experiment with a personal analytics solution.
IBM Cognos Insight (watch video) is the perfect solution for business users to take full control of their personal and corporate data and become active participants in the analytics process. In just a few clicks of the mouse, business analysts, managers and executives can independently explore and merge personal and corporate data on their desktops, perform compelling what-if analyses and take insight to action.
The new solution also eliminates silos of information or dead-end applications. IBM Cognos Insight users can pass their individual work directly to a business administrator who can instantly publish dashboards and forecast plans to an IBM Cognos server, providing a managed and standardized environment that others can contribute to and use.
Other new features in the new version of IBM Cognos Insight V10.2 include:
·The ability to create Time dimensions based on Fiscal Year and populate these dimensions with all dates within a year even when it is not available in the source data
·Publishing the entire Cognos Insight workspace into the Cognos enterprise environment in order to make it available for web consumption
·Predefined logic to filter data on top or bottom results based on measure values, percentages or accumulated sums
·Importing a Cognos package as a data source, thereby leveraging what has already been modeled by IT from the Cognos Business Intelligence server
·Enhanced analysis based on time through the creation of relative time categories
·The use of Cognos Insight as a disconnected planning client to take IBM Cognos TM1 plans offline and be able to reconnect and commit changes back to the TM1 server
IBM Cognos Insight Personal Edition is available for download from AnalyticsZone. Visitors to this site can also watch how to videos, download tutorials, experiment with sample data, learn best practices, ask questions to product experts, and compete in App Challenges.
