Topic: Counter Fraud in a Big Data World
Experts: Michael Versace, IDC & Robert Griffin, IBM
Smart criminals go where the money is. In today's climate it's no longer bandits chasing down cross-country-bound trains. We're in the 21st century where Big Data reins supreme. Today's "bandits" are off their horses and on their computers. They're on the web armed and ready to commit online fraud wherever possible. Unfortunately, fraud's very lucrative, and increasingly difficult to identify. Sure, technologies like cloud, mobile, big data and analytics have changed our professional and personal lives for the better but these solutions can also act as a shield for would-be criminals.
However, there's a difficult balance businesses face in e-commerce. That is, they need to create a seamless online buying experience for us to conveniently do our shopping yet we also expect our data to be securely protected. And, if any of our confidential information were to be compromised, we'd no doubt expect to be alerted of fraudulent charges or the like immediately with an action plan for restitution, if necessary.
In this #bigdatamgmt chat entitled, “Countering Fraud in a Big Data World" Michael Versace (@versace57), Global Research Director at IDC Financial Insights, and Robert Griffin (@BobGriffin_PS) , VP-Counter Fraud & Industry Solutions at IBM, will lead this online discussion.
