The announcement made in mid-Dec. 2012 was that IBM is going to replace IBM LoadLeveler with IBM Platform LSF for its x86 clusters running on Linux. Sales of LoadLeveler for x86 clusters will end on March 15, 2013 while the software support will continue until April 30, 2015.
Although a somewhat old news, we feel that this is a story worth to be shared again and in more depth. IBM Platform LSF is a flagship product under IBM Platform Computing brand. It is regarded as industry’s most powerful workload scheduler for distributed computing environment. Organizations of different sizes across many industries, including many of the fortune 1000 companies and users in academic space all have chosen Platform LSF to manage their most demanding, mission critical computing environment. The unmatched performance, high scalability and infrastructure utilization delivered by Platform LSF have helped those organizations bring their results to market faster and gain greater competitive advantage over their competitors.
As a product family comprised of a rich set of modules and add-on products, IBM Platform LSF offers a complete set of resource-aware scheduling, monitoring, workflow, analysis, and license management capabilities, all designed to work together seamlessly to address the demanding technical computing workload requirements while delivering high application throughput at the same time.
Following the recent announcement, Platform LSF is positioned as the scheduler of choice for IBM System x, IBM PureFlex System, and IBM Power Systems clusters and grids. Although the existing LoadLeveler program for IBM x86 platform will be discontinued in the upcoming months, IBM plans to continue to evaluate and integrate key features of LoadLeveler to enhance the Platform LSF offering.
Making Platform LSF as a default workload scheduler for IBM x86 platform will open up new opportunities for us. We expect to see greater market adoptions of IBM x86 clusters across various industries and we are excited about those opportunities. We believe our integrated solution built on IBM Platform LSF and IBM System x hardware will provide an effective solution for addressing cluster management challenge, one of the top pain points for technical computing users, while at the same time bringing high productivity and efficiency to our customers.
