As sure as the arrival of the autumn colours, another Super Computing conference is upon us. This year happens to be the 25th anniversary of the event, and IBM will be running live demonstrations including recently launched IBM software and hardware products architected for technical computing.
IBM Platform HPC is a complete technical computing infrastructure management solution in a single product. It not only provides cluster management and monitoring capabilities, but also a robust workload manager and application web portal. The latest release of IBM Platform HPC integrates the well proven xCAT technology for enhanced cluster provisioning, as well as advanced hardware and filesystem GPFS monitoring capabilities. All of the capabilities are accessible through a single, web-based user interface.
IBM NeXtScale is the recently announced next-generation high-density platform for scale out computing. Based on the latest Intel Xeon processors, it's well suited to technical computing workloads and provides scalable building blocks that enable you to adapt to ever-changing user and business requirements. IBM Platform HPC is supported on IBM NeXtScale, as well as a variety of IBM System x servers, iDataPlex and Intelligent Cluster.
To showcase these two new products, we will be running Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) with the 12km CONUS benchmark data set. Weather prediction continues to be an important capability and our goal is to show the close integration between hardware and software offered by IBM. Our demonstration includes two NeXtScale compute servers, each equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 series processors and 32GB of memory. We will demonstrate how administrators can easily construct templates for user applications, thereby greatly simplifying the learning curve for users of the cluster. Using an application template for WRF, users can submit a chain of jobs including post-processing (ARWpost) and visualization (GrADS) without requiring knowledge of the underlying workload manager.
If your goal is to maximize the productivity of your end users, our solutions for technical computing provide outstanding value.
Please drop by the IBM booth (#2713) and Intel booth (#2701) at Super Computing for a live demonstration.
