Whether you are an NFL fan or a news hound, you have probably seen IBM’s campaign for a smarter planet. The smarter planet advertising ran throughout the playoffs, and introduced viewers to the variety of work IBM is doing to improve efficiencies and provide more intelligence. These efforts include changing highway systems to reduce traffic to helping retailers survive a difficult economy by culling more intelligence from the data they already have.
News hounds have been following the same story on the cable news channels, starting with IBM CEO Sam Palmisano’s meeting with President Barack Obama to provide a deeper explanation of IBM’s smarter planet efforts. Sam later met with reporters to provide additional details. Clearly, this is more than just another advertising campaign. Smarter planet is a way to organize and understand IBM’s capabilities related to matters of public policy and the global economy.
So how does Smart Business fit in?
Dynamic infrastructure is one of the key elements of IBM’s smarter planet. For large enterprises, this is all about a greener, more cost effective data center. But for small and medium businesses, Smart Business is at the core of a dynamic infrastructure. Encompassing the Foundations appliance, Smart Cube, and cloud-based application delivery, Smart Business provides the infrastructure that is appropriate to the client’s solution requirements, not the other way around. Because of its design, Smart Business can adapt to a client’s changing requirements, as that client expands or contracts with the economy.
In the coming months, we will work with all of our Smart Business partners to ensure that your listing in the Smart Market properly reflects your contribution to building a smarter planet.
