Today is the start of Web 2.0 Expo in New York City. I love New York in the fall and the fact that the conference is actually earlier in the year then last year suits me fine. It means that I actually get to New York when it is fall and not winter like last year. I have to assume that there are more people like me that like New York in the Fall. While registering as a speaker today, I overheard a conversation where an attendee was trying to register three more people for the conference. The lady looked at him and said: "Sir I know you are disappointed. Believe me, so am I! The conference is completely sold out. We have been turning people away for the last 3 weeks." So in my mind, I figured there were either loads of people using the conference as an excuse to come to New York in the fall or the conference agenda must be outstanding.
With that in mind I actually took the time to look at the agenda and noticed that 3 IBMers are listed as speakers. One of the IBMers, Julia Grace, is actually a keynote speaker with a topic that I find very interesting. Julia will talk about "Movies are in 3-D, why not our Data? Taking Web 2.0 into the 3-D World". The second speaker is somebody that we in Lotus world know very well. Jeff Schick will talk about "Social Transformation of the 21st Century Workplace". I have to admit that I feel humbled speaking at the same conference as these two presenters. My presentation "Cool Ways to Work Smarter in the Cloud" looks into the ways that collaboration is changing. IBM announced LotusLive last year and there has been very good adoption of the technology. Customers are asking questions around security and integration with existing applications and IBM is the only company that addresses every single aspect of cloud computing. IBM's offering includes management of the cloud environments to offering various public cloud services across all of its brands. I will address how working together requires all these pieces.
Yes walking around the conference center and seeing the big "Lotus Knows How / Lotus Knows Why" signs everywhere does feel good. Come visit the Expo where IBM Lotus also has a stall and we will show you why Lotus Knows everything... From 3-D data to 21st Century workplaces to Cool ways to work Smarter.
