The news from down under this week was all about the Lifehacker live television event on the future of email.
When I spoke with Matt Tredinnick, our lead in Australia, he said "This show could easily go on the road. The discussion was lively. The topic was controversial. And, the speakers were insightful." He continued to say, "The panel included our very own General Manager of IBM Collaboration and Lotus Software - Alistair Rennie, with executives from Intel (Genevieve Bell) and RIM (Adele Beachley), and a futurist (Mark Pesce). This was 'infotainment' of the highest caliber."
During the discussion, Alistair stated definitely that "Email is not going away." He explained that the experiments we're running at IBM are about how to re-invent the in-box so the system becomes smarter and makes it easier on people.
As you can imagine, there were a wide range of topics covered including - social tools, mobility, the blurring of work and personal personas and so much more. I also learned from listening to the replay that both Google and Microsoft representatives were invited but declined to participate. I'll leave that to you to decide the reason.
