The vast majority of regulatory compliance programs in financial institutions today are project oriented i.e. they respond to individual regulatory requirements separately with different project teams and little systems overlap. In a scenario where the IT requirements of regulatory initiatives such as Basel II are challenging and subject to ongoing change, this “stove-pipe” approach is not sustainable and can quickly become very expensive for both the Compliance Manager and the CIO.
