IBM has 223 Systems in the Top500® with System x taking 178 positions
At Supercomputing 2011 (SC11) held in Seattle, Washington, November 13 - 18, IBM placed 223 systems, the most of any vendor, in the semi-annual listing of the Top500 supercomputer sites in the world. In addition, IBM System x servers had the most x86-based entries on the list, with 80 IBM rack-mount servers, 53 IBM Blade systems and 45 IBM iDataPlex entries.
At the SC11 Exhibit Hall, IBM System x teams showed live demonstrations of the IBM iDataPlex running brain images with and without accelerators, a IBM BladeCenter H running blades in an SMP configuration for massive in-memory data analysis, and an IBM Intelligent Cluster running monitoring and parallel tools applications.

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) needed a need high performance computing solution with a large memory footprint to conduct data-rich graphing problem research. Brown University needed a flexible, cost-effective high-performance computing solution that could provide a very large memory footprint needed to run complex scientific applications. They deployed 16 IBM System x iDataPlex® dx360 M3 servers with 1.5 terabytes of addressable memory.
Kantana Animation Studios needed an energy-efficient, high-performance computing platform that would help accelerate animation development. They implemented a 36-node IBM® System x® iDataPlex® system.
