We know that a large part of success often comes down to having the right tool (insert skills, personality, experience, etc.) for the right job. One of my favorite examples of this has to do with pizza-making. Stay with me on this.
If you’re a pizza aficionado or just plain foodie that loves pizza, you’ve probably tried to make some version of your favorite wood-fired pizza at home. After getting the sauce and crust just right, you’ve probably experimented with pizza stones in the oven, after abandoning most metal sheets no matter how hi-tech. In the final analysis, you’ve surrendered to the realization that you need to buy or build a wood-fired oven to achieve pizza nirvana.
Operational Decision Management (ODM), the business approach and technology, is a lot like that wood-fired oven or any tool that does certain things better than others. If you need certain things to come out a certain way in your business (and I'll get to those things in a minute), your best bet for return on investment is to use operational decision management software, especially when success depends on being able to unlock business rules from existing applications.
To extend this analogy just a bit further, ODM can help organizations improve a variety of business processes and applications, like a wood-fired oven can cook more things than pizza better than a conventional oven. This comes in handy because once you bring ODM into the organization you can use it to achieve other mission-critical objectives. However, there are certain business scenarios where it’s such a best-fit for a particular problem you’re just delaying the inevitable if you don’t adopt it.
Without further suspense, these ten business use cases represent the opportunities where you can really “cook” with ODM to achieve memorable outcomes.
