The Pulse blog is pleased to present today's guest blog by Danny Sabbah, General Manager of Tivoli Software, IBM Software Group
Pulse 2012 is fast approaching, and this year we’ve evolved the conference to focus more on education, information exchange and interaction – which is what you’ve asked us to do.
Pulse will feature IBM experts and industry leaders across three general sessions and over 400+ breakout sessions across our four streams - 75% of which are lead by your peers! Not to mention plenty of networking opportunities with your peers at the Executive Summit, Business Partner summit, and receptions.
Pulse provides a unique opportunity for you to learn more about the capabilities you need to transform IT economics and speed service delivery, including strategies and actions to help gain value from cloud computing, mobility, security, and smarter physical infrastructures. While on the surface these sound like buzz words, I’m certain that we have the depth and best practices for you to successfully implement these initiatives in your organization and tie them to real business outcomes.
In addition, within the Solution Expo we are introducing an Interoperability Center. We added the Center, based upon your feedback, to demonstrate IBM’s open platform for integrating service delivery across IBM, partner and third-party solutions. The demonstrations will be in the context of real business scenarios, including: cloud, smarter buildings, continuous development, and more.
Pulse is focused on achieving “Business without Limits”, and the curriculum and networking events are designed to provide you with the ideas, actions, and best practices to deliver on the three business imperatives:
Better focus from technology investment on business outcomes
Streamline execution to reduce unnecessary cost and risk
React with speed and agility to shifting competitive landscapes
So on behalf of IBM and our Business Partners, I hope you accept the challenge to attend Pulse and take away actions to drive business impact for your organization. It’s a 3 day education and networking opportunity that you will not want to miss!
Pulse kicked off the IBM Tivoli Business Partner Summit Sunday with almost 1000 Business Partners. IBM executives Al Zollar, Doug Brown, Sandy Carter, Joao Perez, Faye Chandler, Laura Sanders, and Bill Kribbs shared made special appearances and discussed IBM's new approach to Integrated Service Management. . Special sessions on the latest hot topics included social media, speed partnering, and a "Cool Cloud Cash Workshop" hosted by Sandy Carter with "Cloud Computing for Dummies" author Judith Hurwitz.
IBM Tivoli 2010 Business Partner awards were also announced as follows:
Pirean wins IBM Tivoli 2010 Business Partner Service Management Solution Award for outstanding business partner solution delivering the visibility, control and automation required to industrialize business and IT operations. Founded in 2002, Pirean is a leading systems integrator and consultancy delivering real-time business and service assurance through solutions for infrastructure and application management. Pirean worked with a major UK Government Agency to address significant Service Management challenges. The customer had no accurate view of the IT estate, limited KPI reporting and time consuming SLA management. Through a detailed process of discovery of the existing environment, Pirean was able to review and document process in line with ITIL best practice (ISO20000) – and by leveraging the integrated IBM portfolio, design a solution from a technology perspective to ensure that process was followed. The solution includes customer specific customizations to each Screen within Tivoli Service Request Manager and CCMDB, as well as implementing workflows that guide the user through the defined service management process. The solution delivered has already demonstrated the ability to introduce increased structure and control through workflows, and dramatically improved configuration management through the discovery tools and provides a level of compliance management previously not available.
Softential, Inc. wins IBM Tivoli 2010 Business Partner Innovation Award for leading the charge to manage the world’s infrastructure with IBM Tivoli capabilities and solutions in innovative, intelligent, and exciting ways. Founded in 2000, Softential provides Service Management solutions for businesses that need to monitor and manage their services, IT infrastructure and workflow. Softential's product OpsAssure is a new enhanced integration and visualization of relevant CMDB data (asset and GIS information) and Google Maps; and dynamic weather information (from N.O.A.A); essentially forging new capabilities as called for in IBM’s Smart Planet initiative. OpsAssure provides integrations with IBM Tivoli Business Automation products (Netcool OMNIbus, Netcool Webtop and Netcool Impact). Working with client Cox Communications, Softential used their OpsAssure solution to help Cox better obtain fault and event information to Cox across service areas in the context of real-time weather data (obtained periodically from NOAA) and its affect on Cox’s service availability and QOS. Cox benefits from having this unprecedented visibility into its service areas both in normal operating conditions as well as when faced with adverse weather. As a result, Cox is able to reduce outage durations and ensure customer satisfaction. FINALISTS: generationE, the Createch Group
eSolutions wins the Smarter Planet Award for its dedicated work with clients to manage instrumented, interconnected and intelligent infrastructures with better visibility control and automation.
Alcatel Lucent wins the Network Equipment Provider Award for its contribution to Tivoli’s success in 2009.
StorServer wins the Application Specific License Award for its contribution to Tivoli’s success in 2009. Winner:
Pulse 2010 Best of Show Award for showcasing a solution at the Pulse conference that solves problems in today’s IT market by using creative methods, drives new markets, and fosters new innovation and cutting edge solutions. TBD until Monday
The CIO Summit, International Forum Reception, Maximo User Groups sessions, and the opening of the Pulse Solution Expo were also part of today's big events. The first day of general sessions starts tomorrow.

When people ask me what Tivoli does or what is service management, my first impulse is to launch into this:
IBM Service Management represents an evolutionary leap forward in managing services. IBM Service Management provides the integrated Visibility, Control and Automation™ that you need across business and technology assets to help overcome roadblocks to innovation. It enables you to better achieve your business objectives and maximize the value from all of the assets that support your operation.
But its even easier than that. We do what any good business must: save customers time and money, while enabling them to delight their own customers. For instance, the gecko and the hairdo keep telling you every day of your life how easy it is to save with them. What they don't tell you is that those savings would be impossible without loads of data housed in systems run on software that organizes chaos to help make business sense. That's what we do. Of course, there is a lot more to the story and we hope you'll come to Pulse for the rest.
Here's a little something to dance in your head while you score holiday gifts online this season:
At Pulse, we're going to showcase what we do best. We're also going to bring brand new solutions, roadmaps for forthcoming development, sessions with domain experts and real human clients, and solution demos that show you how to save money and keep customers coming back to you.
We'll have some fun too. I'll tell you more about that later.
Pulse 2012 is March 4-7 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Early Bird registrationcan save you up to $700 but the offer expires on December 16.
Attending the Pulse 2009 conference in Vegas was one of the highlights of my year. How could I ever top all the great people, topics, demos, products, solutions, services, innovations, fun, and excitement at Pulse? Honestly, I don't think it's possible. You just had to be there! However, if you'd like to get a taste of the experience or extend your own Pulse experience, I recommend some of the links below:

I’m going to predict that the people who know me
are going to LOL when they read this blog because I don’t tweet. This is ironic
because I am a certifiable Internet JUNKIE! For proof of this, I met by best
friends online and talk to them more than the people in my house. And when I do
see my online BFFs in person, we have our lifeline laptops with us to
feed the monkey when it demands to be fed. (Yes, we've chatted with each other on the Internet while sitting side-by-side. Mmm-hmmm. Nerds, I tell ya.)
But Twitter has never been my thing. I often wonder if I
need to be indoctrinated at some social media therapy center so that I can keep
my job as marketing communications specialist.Tiffany Winman, feel free to reply with any recommendations here or on
my Facebook Wall.
Ahh, Facebook. Definitely more my speed. Perhaps there is a way to tweet via Facebook
that I just haven’t learned yet. Tiff?
Ok, ok. So I have tweeted some for Pulse, if not much from my own neglected Twitter account. Tiffany, our social media guru, taught me
how to use a few cool tools, like HootSuite, which updates status with Twitter
and Facebook at the same time – which I loooove. A working IBMer mom of two
littles, I am all about multi-tasking. You know, two tweeting birds: one stone.
Check it out if you have the Twitter and/or Facebook Junkie Monkey on your
Take from me (or don't): there is no shame in being
clueless as to just what the heck the Twitter fuss is all about. But, if you
are attending Pulse this year, you should care.
This conference is going to be huge. Pulse will be host to
over 5000 attendees and feature over 300 client and IBM Business Partner
presentations. So while your ticket to Pulse can provide a glimpse of what the
near future will look like from the most uber-intelligent Tech and Business
experts, you are still going to miss a lot because it is impossible to be in
more than one place at a time.
Unless you use Twitter. Twitter is the closest thing to time
travel that we have right now. And if aren't planning to travel to Pulse the old-fashioned way by plane, you can use Twitter to beam yourself up to Vegas.
First Things First. Get a
Twitter Account, Already!
painless and only takes a minute. Do it now, K? THX!
your tweets ensures that your input is included in search results on your
subject matter. And you want this. People don’t tweet because they want to be
wallflowers. So they use hashtags.
wanted to know what a hashtag was but were too busy to Google it? A hashtag is
just a tag included inline with your status update.
tags are called hashtags because they are preceded by the "#"
character. The “#” prefix is
called the hash (mark) and in Twitter messages it is immediately followed,
without a space, by topic or issue you want to tag for others to find.
Together, you have a code called a “Hashtag.”
even ask me why it is a hashtag and not a poundtag. IDK.
the following HASHTAGS in your tweets during Pulse:
