Pulse Day 3 Focuses on Innovation!
Wednesday's general session was all about future innovation. After a fun introductory video highlighting IBM Research's “5 in 5”, host Scott Hebner introduced Erich Clementi, Senior Vice President of IBM Global Technology Services, who outlined how the delivery of IT Services will evolve with cloud in support of Smarter Computing. Noting that cloud consumption requires a very different delivery model. It helps define the IT role in a new way—helping to integrate and aggregate services in order to optimize service delivery and business outcomes. Helene Armitage, General Manager of Systems Software for the IBM Systems and Technology Group, discussed the factors that are influencing system design for a smarter planet, including the consumerization of IT and data without limits.
Next, Manoj Saxena described the impact that IBM Watson will have on helping to solve some of the world's most daunting challenges. He outlined some of the history of Watson, and shared how IBM is putting Watson to work to solve industry challenges by leveraging unprecedented analytics. Watson, he said, is an enabler of the smarter planet vision--managing vast amounts of unstructured data and delivered as a cloud-based service.
The session ended with an engaging keynote conversation between special guest speaker Steve Wozniak and IBM's own Grady Booch. In this informal, fun discussion Woz shared anecdotes about everything from his early days with Steve Jobs, his commitment to education, the importance of product marketing, and the keys to happiness. It's worth watching.
