Pulse Daily News for Wednesday, March 7
While the Pulse opening general session focused on strategy, Day 2 provided a roadmap to the opportunity highway: visibility, control, and automation in action. "America's Got Talent" performers I-Luminate lit up the stage with their exciting integration of dance and technology. Host Scott Hebner welcomed the group, described the session's focus on implementation, and recognized the importance of IBM Business Partners to supply critical capabilities, skills, and expertise. Steve Mills followed with a wrapup of the broader IBM roadmap around Smarter Computing. He shared the journey IBM has taken internally and with clients to meet the demands smarter planet solutions are placing on IT, including applying the breadth of IBM solutions, or "eating our own cookie" to deliver faster time to value and lower operating costs.
Bob Picciano hosted a panel of clients featuring Peter Bews, Director for Cloud Computing for Rogers Communications, David Kontra, Global Real Estate Portfolio Executive for GE, Jill Holbrook, Associate Director Technology Infrastructure, Erie Board of Cooperative Education Services and Tony Spinelli, Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer, Equifax. They discussed the challenges companies are facing today, what innovative new strategies they are taking advantage of and how IBM is helping them make use of Cloud, Smart Physical Infrastructure, Mobility and Security and Compliance.
Jamie Thomas then described new additions to the IBM portfolio and the roadmaps IBM is putting in place to help clients succeed (accelerators, progression paths, etc.). With a focus on standards Jamie will also preview what to expect from IBM as we move forward in time from a technology perspective and oriented around Visibility, Control and Automation. Read about the announcements here.

Gartner predicts that by 2014, 90% of organizations will support corporate applications on personal devices. Everyone is talking about “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD), and most businesses will need to review their policies to accommodate it. We are all too familiar with hearing about the security challenges that organizations will need to overcome, but what do employees think about BYOD? Pirean would really like to find out! Drop by the Pirean booth P317 in the expo hall to answer a few short questions and we’ll make a donation on your behalf to Hope for the Warriors, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Habitat for Humanity.
