IBM is running an amazing virtual conference this week called the "IBM Summit at Start." The conference is geographically based in the United Kingdom with a brilliant offering of speakers including the Prince of Wales, Charles. The theme of the conference is "Smarter Business for a Sustainable Future." What does it mean to be sustainable? The definition of sustaining is to endure. When we use sustainable alongside our future, we are talking about the earth enduring pollution and global warming. To be sustainable the planet must be able to support human life. This is a very important topic. At IBM we recognize that a sustainable future is most likely to be achieved when sustainability produces tangible business benefits. That’s why we’re so excited about the Start initiative - it’s about taking positive steps to create a world that works better, just like our Smarter Planet agenda.
If you're concerned about how to work smarter, create sustainable cities and programs, then you will want to take some time to listen to the "IBM Summit at Start."
I've been taking some time each day to tune in and listen to the programs. Topics include energy, transportation, finance and more. There are so many ways we can all work smarter. For a great example about how the city of Manchester, England is developing into a smarter city, read this article from The Guardian, UK.
