If you walked away from last week's PartnerWorld Leadership Conference with one message, it should have been that Business Partners are critical to IBM's success. Over the past 40 years, Business Partners have played a key role in helping drive many of the innovations that have led us up to this, IBM's centennial year. The below video shares IBM's perspective on just how essential Business Partners are to the company's success:
It's no surprise then, that IBM Business Partners will play an equally important role in our Centennial celebration. Leading up to IBM's birthday on June 16, 2011, when Chairman Sam Palmisano will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, there will be lots of ways that Business Partners can get involved in the centennial celebration, from using the centennial as an entry point into a dialogue about the Smarter Planet agenda, to physically participating in events, such as a Day of Service. There's a TON of centennial information out there, and it can be difficult to wade through, so, in order to simplify things a bit, here's five things that you can do to get involved in the IBM Centennial right now:
1 - Watch the Centennial Films and share them with your clients
IBM's centennial films, including the above IBM Business Partners and the Next 100 Years, 100x100 and They Were There, can be used by IBM Business Partners to help celebrate the centennial. The 100x100 overview film features 100 people, who each present an IBM achievement from the year they were born. Through their eyes, you can see how IBM innovations have incrementally made the company into what it is today, and have helped to shape the world in the process. By contrast, They Were There is a bit of a deeper dive; presenting a the first-hand accounts of current and past IBMers who were present for the innovations that helped change the world. Just note note that at 30 minutes long, it requires a bit of time commitment in order to watch it, so make sure you choose to share it on the right occasion.
2 - View the Icons of Progress and embed the widget on your website
Each day, IBM features one of it's 100 most influential innovations that have helped to shape the last century. What's really cool about this (other than the innovations themselves, of course) is that you can easily share them from your own website. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the link that says 'embed'. A couple of easy clicks, and you have the code required to share the widget on your own site or blog!
3 - Contribute to the Centennial dialogue via social media
Business Partners have played an important role in IBM reaching it's 100th birthday, so why not play an equally important role in the celebration? Share the Icons of Progress, films, or create your own story -- share the innovations that you have witnessed through your partnership with IBM or talk about how your company has brought these innovations to the next level. And, don't forget to use use hashtag #ibm100 in all of your centennial related tweets! Update 2/25/11: You can also check out Centennial Conversations for an aggregated look at all the social buzz around the centennial, and register your blog to join the conversation.
4 - Join in the Celebration of Service
Current IBMers, retirees, friends, family and others associated with the company (that includes YOU, Business Partners) are joining in a year of service, using their skills to help improve the communities where they live, work and learn. As of today, a total of 246,989 hours have been pledged so far, and it's only February! Check out some of the projects where people have already pledged their time, or create your own. On the last day of IBM's first century, June 15, 2011, the Celebration of Service will culminate in a Celebration of Service Day, on which IBM's service efforts will reach their peak, but feel free to pledge your service on any day of the year.
5 - Order Centennial Memorabilia
IBM has put together a great set of memorabilia in honor of the centennial, ranging from archival prints to buttons that you can wear at any of the upcoming conferences. At very affordable price points, this memorabilia is a great way to help spread awareness of IBM's 100th year and to join in the centennial celebration.

Looking forward to celebrating the next 100 years with IBM Business Partners!
