IBM's 100th year is well underway. For the people who are close to IBM, this has been an opportunity to pay tribute to our past history of innovation, as well as celebrate our present by retelling stories of IBM's transformational moments
and participating in Centennial activities
. As part of these activities, IBM is asking current employees, retirees, business partners, families and friends to join in our Celebration of Service
The Global Celebration of Service honors the company's 100-year history of social innovation by involving IBMers and our colleagues as catalysts for change in the communities where we live, work and learn. Although, employee volunteerism is something IBM has always supported, we're taking our community involvement to the next level this year, in order to honor our history. So far, over 450,000 service hours have been pledged in areas as diverse as Human Services, Education, Economic Development, Healthcare and the Environment. This massive community service effort will culminate in a Day of Service on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, the day before IBM officially turns 100. We hope that, as IBM Business Partners, you will join us!
As a Business Partner, here's how you can get involved:
Plan a Service Day for Your Company, or Join an IBM Service Event
On the IBM 100 Web site, you'll find resources to help you start your own service project
, or you may also find inspiration for your project by reading our Stories of Service
. As an alternative, you can also work with your IBM contact in local geography to identify service projects you can join that are already in progress. IBM is asking each person involved in the Celebration of Service to pledge a minimum of eight hours, although this is not a strict requirement for participation if you can not commit to that much time.
Invite Your Clients to Join You
Everyone is welcome to join in the Celebration of Service, so clients are more than welcome to participate.
Pledge Your Service Hours Through the Celebration of Service Web Site
Once you've decided how you're going to get involved, go to the Celebration of Service Web site and click on 'I'm Ready to Pledge'. Select the option 'I'm a global citizen'; it will ask you what your relationship to IBM is, with the option to select 'Business partner'. This will ensure that your hours get counted alongside everyone else's.
Share With Your Social Networks
Once you've pledged, let us know about it! If you're tweeting, don't forget to use the key hashtag #ibm100. I'd also love to share your story of service on this blog, so drop me a message @IBMPartnerMktg
, and let me know how your company is getting involved in the IBM Centennial, or respond to this post in the comments section.
