How to position the benefits of outsourcing to a CFO or CEO?

For many IT Managers and CIO’s the benefits of outsourcing have historically been difficult to quantify in great detail. These challenges often limit the success of attempts to effectively position outsourcing as a business strategy effectively to the CFO or CEO. The need to address this short-coming is clear, however, given the transformative impact that outsourcing can yield for all functions of the organisation.
In this short video interview with Stephen Hains, Director IBM Global Technology Services, a simple model is offered that seeks to provide a lens through which organisations, considering outsourcing as a business strategy, can establish what benefits could be accessed.
Stephen outlines four key areas where outsourcing yields substantial benefits; Opex, Capex, Risk Mitigation and finally, Business Enabler. Having established a lens through which to assess the benefits of adopting an outsourcing strategy, Stephen draws upon his own experience in working with IBM’s clients to provide numerous examples of the benefits that have stemmed from outsourcing.
