Demystifying the benefits of the cloud.
There’s been a lot of media hype recently proclaiming cloud computing as the panacea to all modern business problems.
While some hype is justified, some is just plain hysteria. So, it's refreshing to read a report that succinctly details the real benefits achieved by midsized businesses through adopting cloud strategies.
At the IBM Cloud Innovation Forum in June, I presented research from the IBM Institute of Business Value that revealed six game-changing enablers for business.
This global study of over 2,000 midsized businesses also revealed the current mindset towards cloud technology. While 62% of the respondents rated cloud computing as a high priority, it was only from an IT perspective.
This attitude needs to change, and rapidly. As highlighted in The Frost & Sullivan report – How the cloud changes the game for line of business managers in midsized companies, midsized businesses need to look at the cloud from a whole-of-business standpoint.
Personally, I believe the cloud offers a timely and valuable hand-up to midsized businesses. I can see a perfect storm brewing, if you can excuse the pun, with the cloud’s game-changing attributes revolutionising industry value chains. The cloud is forcing companies to embrace new business models for innovation and leverage social, CRM, mobility and analytics technology.
The cloud needs to transcend the IT department to change the game for businesses of any size.
