In this whitepaper, Lynda Stadtmueller of Stratecast offers some practical suggestions that organisations of all sizes can implement when developing their storage strategy. In light of my day to day discussions with clients the article is very relevant, as it would appear that a large proportion of businesses are thinking about incorporating hosted (or cloud) storage into their IT environment within the year ahead.
Although highlighting the many benefits of cloud-storage, Lynda raises some timely points that serve to debunk the perception that cloud-computing always serves as the elixir of an organisation’s storage challenges. Unchecked optimism in the benefits of cloud-based storage often result s in the organisation facing the same issues, having merely transferred their data centre inefficiencies into a new environment.
Adopting a more reasoned and balanced approach when revisiting your storage strategy presents a tremendous opportunity to optimise your storage environments.
