Modern organisations that are geographically dispersed face many challenges, especially when it comes to improving processes and enhancing employee productivity, engagement and collaboration across their multiple locations. To help combat these exact issues, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) partnered up with IBM in 2010 to implement a suite of social software that has helped their organisation create a better work experience for their employees.
With just over 3000 employees dispersed all over Australia, ABS was struggling to get effective and efficient employee collaboration. The mission within ABS was to enhance the way in which their employees work and engage with one another, with the prerequisite that it could be accessed and interacted with by the employees across the multiple locations. A social solution was deemed to be a good fit and IBM’s Lotus Connections software was selected by ABS to help create a more connected and interactive environment.
Since adopting IBM’s Lotus Connections, ABS employees have experienced a number of positive outcomes as they now have the ability to:
Find content quickly and easily via the internal social network
Access the right experts within their organisation
Collaborate and contribute content
Generate their own wikis, blogs and communities to share and transfer knowledge and ideas with their colleagues
Improve processes and encourage innovation
Make more informed decisions, by easily accessing the user created content that they have on hand
These outcomes have not only had positive impacts internally, but they have also had positive impacts on the services that ABS provides, as ABS employees can now help their customers, to make better, faster and more informed decisions. ABS now believes that via their socially networked organisation they inspire better work and generate greater insight by enabling their employees to connect and interact with one another socially.
