"InterConnect is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved with technology as a key enabler." ~ Mr. Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Mayor for North East District CDC, Republic of Singapore
Mr. Teo Ser Luck, minister of state for Trade and Industry, Mayor for North East District CDC, Republic of Singapore, opened Day 2 of InterConnect by speaking about the remarkable growth rate of Asian countries and how they will dominate the world economy in the next decade.
Central to the InterConnect agenda were 10 Hot Topic sessions designed to help attendees understand how to meet the challenges facing their business in an ever-changing market. The three overarching themes were:
IBM General Managers hosted each Hot Topic session and guided attendees through 90-minute sessions. General Managers shared insights from IBM clients and Business Partners and their successes leveraging the breadth and depth of IBM technology, systems and software. It was repeatedly demonstrated how IBM has enabled the panelists' organizations to become more collaborative and foster innovation among their employees.
Brendan Hannigan, General Manager of IBM Security Systems, explored the importance of implementing strong security strategies (an issue many organizations are plagued with today). Security strategies, noted Hannigan, need to be proactive instead of reactive.
The insights and case studies were plentiful as speakers shared hard data mixed with laser-sharp analysis that brought the problems and solutions facing business today into focus.
Bob Picciano, Senior Vice President, IBM Software, moderated a panel of clients that discussed successes they have seen with IBM technologies.
Don Schwarha, Information Systems Manager at Kawasaki Rail Car, explained how IBM products like WebSphere Portal have helped them become a more efficient and effective company.
Billy Back, Director, LG CNS, outlined how his organization used IBM cloud and analytic services to gain deeper insights from their data.
Marta Zienkiewicz, Head of Finance at CHI Poland, gave an enlightening talk regarding CHI Poland’s implementation of IBM Commerce Express to speed the rate at which they received financial information to improve decision-making processes.
Gordon Bruce, CIO and Director of IT for the City of Honolulu, delved into how Honolulu's migration to IBM Enterprise servers enabled them to more effectively and efficiently serve their citizens.
Marie Wieck, General Manager, AIM, spoke about transforming critical business processes. Marie was joined by Maria Winans, VP, Software Industry Solutions Marketing and Kevin Custis, GBS global leader, Social Business and Mobility Services. The conversation quickly turned to the critical role that business processes play in the success of companies and governments.
Brian Truskowski, General Manager of System Storage and Networking, intrigued the audience and set off many tweets with his discussion points on how the information-centric era we live in provides a myriad of challenges and opportunities (a topic that resonated with many in the audience). Truskowski then explained how IBM Smarter Storage for computing provides a way for businesses to unlock the true potential of their data without overspending.
Clients discussed the storage solution criteria important for managing their business and how they evaluated, chose and used IBM Storage to increase storage utilization and administrator productivity. It was a jammed packed day full of revealing and educational sessions, presentations and case studies. But the guest speakers weren’t the only vocal people at the event. Attendees offered their opinions, insights and what they learned at the conference in brief video interviews which you can view here.
