IBM InterConnect 2012: Highlights from Day 3

IBM InterConnect 2012 Day 3 General Session began with a look back at all the action, connections and insights of the first two days of the conference. The success of InterConnect 2012 has greatly exceeded expectations and feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive.
Manoj Saxena, General Manager, IBM Watson Solutions, opened the much-anticipated Putting Watson to Work talk with a look at how businesses are “dying of thirst in an ocean of data.” While David Gledhill, Managing Director, Head Group and Technology Operations, DBS BankAs, offered the notion that a primary concern for today's businesses is extracting value from the vast amount of available data.
As the last day of the conference progressed, Hot Topics sessions were offered allowing participants the chance to select from sessions they could not attend on Day 2 (a welcome relief to anyone who knows the stress of wishing they could attend every offering of an event on a limited schedule). Each session was hosted by senior IBM leaders, and included clients and business partners from a variety of industries.
Marie Wieck, General Manager, Application and Integration Middleware, led the mobile Hot Topic session about the challenges and successes they have seen in implementing mobile solutions. Kristof Kloeckner, General Manager of Rational Software, moderated this session.
John Capriotti, VP, Web and Ecommerce, TBC Corporation, explained his company's approach to selecting a mobile solution and why IBM mobile solutions were clearly the best choice. During this session, Owen Hile, IT Manager, Gadens Lawyers, commented, "We were surprised how easy it was to implement Endpoint Manager and that we got a return on it within weeks." The session was packed and audience engagement gave testament to how important the topic of mobile is to every organization.
Scott Marchant, Managing Director, TestPro Pty Ltd, discussed how moving development from traditional office server environments to SmartCloud Enterprise gave his company massive and immediate advantages.
Alistair Rennie, General Manager, IBM Collaboration Solutions, led a session with his clients. The clients with him in the session were examples of leading companies that are creating exceptional customer experiences through social and commerce best practices.
Kashyap Mehta, Head of eCommerce for Croma (Most Admired Retailer from the World Retail Congress), discussed how Croma anticipates and actually enables price comparison in-store or virtually, from any customer touchpoint and virtually any device.
Deepak Advani, Vice President, Business Analytics Products and Solutions, and Martin Wildberger, Vice President, WW Information Management Development, described all of the ways improving a company's data analytics process can revolutionize the way the company does business.
IBM clients from Barnes & Noble, CitiBank, Ufone, and Rustan Coffee Corporation also shared their stories on how IBM helped them collect the necessary data to make imperative, business-changing decisions.
Robert LeBlanc and Mike Rhodin hosted 100 high potential leaders at a SWG GMU Leadership Conference in conjunction with InterConnect. The second annual Leadership Conference was intended to accelerate each participant's development by providing broad exposure to business strategies and challenges and giving perspective on important leadership attributes and building a network. SWG GMU Leadership Conference was attended by Jim Bramante, Cordelia Chung, John Dunderdale and over 10 SWG general managers and senior executives.

IBM’s exciting announcement about its new PureData System during InterConnect also earned strong media coverage right out of the gate with a nice mix of media appearing around the world and a flood of tweets on the #IBMInterConnect hashtag. There was evidence of this excitement throughout InterConnect.
What an enjoyable and productive 3-day conference! InterConnect 2012 was hugely successful—and entertaining – thanks to a dedicated event staff, passionate guest speakers who are thought-leaders in their fields and attendees who came ready to not only absorb a wealth of knowledge, but who shared their experiences and insights with each other. The session leaders, the IBM client reps and all the feedback gave attendees a lot of information to take home and share with their companies and armed them with tools to embrace and make the most of this digital era. And let’s not forget the parties! Fun for all!
