Data, cloud, engagement bring new opportunities
"Analytics is transforming industries and job roles," Business Analytics GM Alistair Rennie told an overflow audience of finance, risk management and sales compensation professionals. Speakers from Travelers and the Canadian Air Transport Authority (CATSA) confirmed this. "Very excited about how predictive could help us do what we do even better," said Mario Malouin, CFO of CATSA. Marc Altshuller talked about product direction and wowed the audience with two exciting products: IBM Concert, a revolutionary way to collaborate around processes such as disclosure management, and Project Catalyst Insight, still "in the labs," a new analytic discovery solution that makes analytics more automated, approachable and accessible to business users. Guest speaker and author Mark Broadie's analyses showed that conventional wisdom on professional golfer Tiger Woods was completely wrong. It's not just his putting, it's his approach shot that puts him at #1. With the data now available, Broadie said, the question becomes: "Why wonder, when you can know?" Might well become the catch phrase of the conference!
Creating the future-ready enterprise
The Performance Management keynote called out the many innovations made in IBM Cognos TM1, IBM Cognos Insight and other products in this segment which will make analytics more accessible to business users. Richard Rodgers, Director of Product Management, hit the highlights while Chad Peruba, BUE for product strategy, described how IBM Concert's collaborative power can speed decision making in Finance. David Allen, deputy head of government finance for HM Treasury Service in the UK, agreed that barriers to collaboration make it harder to be effective, and Brian Mulada, CFO, IBM Watson Group provided his perspective on building a Finance team.
Smarter Risk message resonates
Clients around the world experience many of the same challenges, related Mina Wallace, VP, Risk Analytics. They know that siloed approaches are ineffective and applaud Smarter Risk, IBM's holistic approach to building trust and value amidst uncertainty. Alden Toevs, CRO, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, described changing the risk culture at his highly visible firm. Mina and her team described enhancements to IBM Algorithmics products, previewed Trust Analytics and other "in the labs" offerings and announced that IBM OpenPages will be available on the Cloud.
SPM inside the smarter enterprise
Adoption of Sales Performance Managementsolutions is accelerating: this was one of the first messages Mark Girvan, Director, SPM, shared with the audience. He sees this trend continuing as companies realize the full value of their SPM data. Susan Selim of Zions Bancorporation shared how her team took an incremental approach to its successful deployment of IBM Incentive Compensation Management. Clients Applied Materials and Millipore also described onstage their journey toward greater use of analytics in sales performance management.
