When Support needs to get an important message out to our customers we use many methods - email, Twitter, blogs, flashes, alerts and Facebook, just to name a few.
But, despite our best efforts, we can’t reach everyone. The reasons for this are many. Emails change, companies change names or ownership, laws around contacting customers by email change...in short, things happen.
So, cue the inevitable. We get the dreaded, “Nobody told me” email from a customer that we’ve been trying to contact and things escalate from there.
Why am I writing about Support’s communication challenges? How does this impact the Supportlink reader?
The reason is one day, we may need to contact you. Issues arise that you need to know about, such as End of Service announcements or Heartbleed.
But there’s no need to panic. The solution is an easy one. It’s My Notifications.
My Notifications in the Support Portal is not a new feature. But, unfortunately, it gets little of the spotlight. It's not flashy. It's not social or in any cloud that I know of.
The thing is, it works.
It's reliable. It's on your schedule. It knows your preferences. The bottom line is that It helps keep you informed as to what's happening with your Business Analytics products.
Not too sure what My Notifications can do? Here's the blurb from the IBM Support web site -
With My Notifications you can receive daily or weekly announcements through e-mail, custom Web pages and RSS feeds. These customizable communications can contain important news, new or updated support content, such as publications, hints and tips, technical notes, product flashes (alerts) and downloads and drivers. The tool allows you to customize and categorize the products you want to monitor and any of the available delivery methods to suit your support needs.
