Most every object in Cognos BI has a name property. Many modelers and designers create their frameworks and reports without giving much thought to changing the default names of the objects they are creating and using. Renaming objects to make them more identifiable lends itself to much easier builds and troubleshooting. Having objects with descriptive names also makes it easier to pass reports and frameworks on to others for maintenance and upgrade.
Generally speaking, a name should tell what the object is, what it’s used for, and roughly what data is involved (if appropriate). An organization may choose tags and conventions other than those described in this document, but consistency is the key. All modelers and designers in the organization should use the same tags and conventions.
