IBM Cognos Business Insight is a Web-based tool that allows you to use IBM Cognos content and external data sources to build sophisticated interactive dashboards that provide insight and facilitate collaborative decision making.
To help you get the most value from IBM Cognos Business Insight, IBM provides instructional videos that you can access through the product. Depending on feedback from you and other customers, we may choose to expand, or reduce the role of videos in future releases. By default, these videos are hosted on the Internet
and might not be available; for example, your Internet access might be blocked, or the hosting server might be temporarily unavailable.
The following instructions describe the necessary steps to host the IBM Cognos Business Insight 10.1.1 How-To Videos on your own web servers.
Configuring Business Insight How-to Videos on your Web Server
- Download the files.
The zip file containing the How-To Videos can be accessed from the following location:
- Upload the files.
Create a folder anywhere on your server machine to host the videos. It doesn't have to be in the same hierarchy as the IBM Cognos 10 product. Any name will do, for example, e:\IBM\cognos\c10_Business_Insight_Videos.
Copy all the files and folders from the folder that contains the extracted files.
You should end up with about 9 files including “index.html” and 4 sub folders named “Audio”, “image”, “pdf” & “video”.
- Create a Virtual Directory.
Add a virtual directory to your web server. The name of the virtual directory can be anything, for example /cognos/c10_Business_Insight_Videos
Point the virtual directory to the physical directory where you uploaded the files, for example:
/cognos/c10_Business_Insight_Videos => e:\IBM\cognos\c10_Business_Insight_Videos
Read access is sufficient.
Add FLV as a MIME type for that virtual directory. Here are the instructions for IIS.
- Select the folder to configure in IIS, right click and select Properties.
- Under HTTP Headers tab, select MIME Types under the MIME Map section and select New Type.
- Type .flv as the associated extension and video/x-flv as the content type.
- Click OK.
- Configure your Colorado BI Server.
Edit the file on your server <Colorado BI location>\webcontent\icd\bux\js\bux\bux.core.js
Create a backup copy of the file.
Search for the line:
Change the location to the virtual directory specified in step 3, for example:
Save and close the file.
- Test the Videos.
Start IBM Cognos Connections, and log in with your browser.
Be sure to clear the browser cache.
From the Welcome screen, open Business Insight by clicking Create my Dashboards.
On the Business Insight Welcome screen click Show all videos. The screen appears as follows:
The list on the left is a set of categories of available How-to Videos.
