Those of us in the industry sometimes forget that there are organisations who don't yet understand the benefits of BRMS. This is particularly true in Asia and Australia (where IT generally lags the adoptions seen in America & Europe), and I often have to articulate the value proposition to companies considering adoption. Steve Demuth in his ILOG BRMS Roadmap gave a good raison d'être for using business rules (paraphrased):
I like to use the term 'friction' between IT and Business, and usually add the reduction in costs of going through the whole SDLC, but his explanation, ILOG's vision for a BRMS, pretty much hits the nail on the head.
