IBM API Management V2.0 is all set to go
Guest post by Tanmayee Potluri, IBM API Management Product Manager.
APIs are one of the fastest growing industries today. APIs open and create new channels to help reach out to multiple devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops etc. According to Daniel Jacobson (Director of Engineering, Netflix API), the number of API requests to Netflix API have increased from 600 million in January of 2010 to 41.7 billion in January of 2012 which shows a 70-fold growth in just two years. In addition, Mark Carges, CTO eBay, has stated $7bn worth of items on eBay are sold through APIs.
The demand for new APIs and API Management has been growing tremendously since last year. Around 1400 new APIs have been added to Programmable Web in just six months. We have been amazed by the interest for API Management at IBM Impact 2013. Everyone knew the API space; the only question was “How do we get there?”
The number of APIs being published, developers consuming the APIs to create innovative application for many different channels and the end users leveraging these applications has been enormously increasing in the market. This brings out the need for an API Management solution that addresses the needs of the three most significant players in the API economy: application developers, business owners and IT personal.
In true IBM fashion, we listened to our customer needs in this area and announced IBM API Management V2.0 on April 23, 2013 – a single solution to create, manage and socialize APIs. IBM API Management is a complete set of web API capabilities that can be deployed on-premise in an enterprise's data center. Clients have the flexibility to establish API management for their private, internal APIs, as well as public or protected, external APIs.We offer a complete configuration no coding approach. Now doesn’t that make life simpler.
API Management complements the Software as a Service (SaaS)-based web API capabilities offered with IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Live Web API Services , but as an on-premise solution. Also, with the on-premise solution, you can now use your existing WebSphere DataPower Gateway Appliances running firmware Version 6.0 to act as the API gateway.
We have added in a number of features to the on-premise offering to provide an industry leading solution for creating, managing and socializing APIs. The key capabilities of the solution to highlight include:
A lot more can be achieved over the on-premise offering of IBM API Management. We have taken into account all the actors of the API economy and built a complete API Management solution. Additional functionality and features of the new on-premise solution can be found at IBM API Management V2.0 Announcement.
We are very excited about this new release and hope you find the best use in it!!
