I want to start off with an excerpt from the IBM MobileFirst ad that ran a few weeks ago in the WSJ.
"It starts with an impulse. A person is walking through a mall or presenting to a client or sitting in bed at 2:00 AM, when suddenly they feel a twinge—of need, of inspiration, of curiosity, of... anything. And, just like that, they pick up their smartphone or tablet."
Most of us relate to that. I do. My phone is almost always within arm's reach. I rely on it to get immediate information and answers, hook up with friends and family, and get work done no matter where I am.
I use my tablet more than my laptop and my phone more than my tablet. I still have a desktop. It's somewhere in the garage. I find myself wishing i could do everything on mobile devices, and not even have to bother with the laptop. Mobile allows us to be connected to anything we want, everywhere. We're never far from the answers we need. Mobile devices have become the norm, and organizations must be able to transact in motion if they are to satisfy their employees and customers.
IBM MobileFirst reflects this trend of mobile being primary. The growing BYOD trend demands that companies create policies that allow employees to work with their mobile devices while implementing security measures that ensure data stays within the enterprise. Customers now expect that any information they want can be accessed through smartphones and tablets. IBM understands that mobile is rapidly becoming the first point of contact between an individual and an organization, whether that individual is a customer, a partner, or an employee. Just as the web revolutionized e-business, mobile will drive the next big shift in computing. Mobile, however, is not just about the mobile device, just as e-business wasn't just about the browser. It's about integrating front office engagement models with traditional systems of record. IBM MobileFirst enables clients to transform business processes, deepen relationships with customers and partners, and drive increased workforce productivity. IBM MobileFirst enables businesses to transact in motion, keeping them in touch with what their constituents want and allowing them to immediately respond.
IBM MobileFirst aims to address the 5 trends below. In the coming weeks, I will expand upon each with a series of blog posts that drill into each trend, and how the The IBM MobileFirst portfolio addresses the most pressing mobile needs of today's organizations.
The IBM MobileFirst portfolio, along with some new announcements, will be showcased at Impact 2013. Mobile is a huge focus at this year's Impact conference. If mobile can make a difference in your organization, I encourage you to attend Impact where you can get a wealth of insight and access to mobile experts that can identify specific solutions for your needs.
