I want to start off with an excerpt from the IBM MobileFirst ad that ran a few weeks ago in the WSJ.
"It starts with an impulse. A person is walking through a mall or presenting to a client or sitting in bed at 2:00 AM, when suddenly they feel a twinge—of need, of inspiration, of curiosity, of... anything. And, just like that, they pick up their smartphone or tablet."
Most of us relate to that. I do. My phone is almost always within arm's reach. I rely on it to get immediate information and answers, hook up with friends and family, and get work done no matter where I am.
I use my tablet more than my laptop and my phone more than my tablet. I still have a desktop. It's somewhere in the garage. I find myself wishing i could do everything on mobile devices, and not even have to bother with the laptop. Mobile allows us to be connected to anything we want, everywhere. We're never far from the answers we need. Mobile devices have become the norm, and organizations must be able to transact in motion if they are to satisfy their employees and customers.
IBM MobileFirst reflects this trend of mobile being primary. The growing BYOD trend demands that companies create policies that allow employees to work with their mobile devices while implementing security measures that ensure data stays within the enterprise. Customers now expect that any information they want can be accessed through smartphones and tablets.
