Last week I touched on the notion that mobile is primary and want to delve into that thought now. Mobile is the primary means of interaction for the majority of the world's population. Our devices have become our lines of communications, banks, tickets and workstations. Mobile devices are an all day companion used to connect, interact, make decisions, and buy things at the spur of the moment. Constantly connected customers and employees are using mobile as their general purpose computing platform both at home and on-the-go. More and more of us turn first to our phones. This infographic illustrates how mobile is primary and how many of us now have a certain attachment to our mobile devices.
Mobile is also the primary touch point where an increasing number of consumers connect with companies. Organizations must prepare themselves to engage with the mobile individual. Let's face it, organizations that don't have a strong social and mobile presence don't stand a chance in today's business environment. If your brand experience doesn't delight your clients, the next click or tap will take them to a competitor that will. While many organizations are leveraging mobile technology, they are not yet realizing its full value. Many companies must rethink their customer relations to allow people to access them at any time. Businesses have an opportunity to deliver mobile apps that transform the value chain. To do so they must make mobile a priority.
To increase business value, organizations must think of mobile not simply in terms of new interfaces added to existing applications, but as an important consideration in their approach to how they connect existing back-end systems, or systems of record, to new systems of engagement with customers, employees and partners. Key to success in the mobile world is keeping mobile first in terms of developing how to approach business processes.
The IBM MobileFirst portfolio can help.
