What Does It Mean to Have Mobile-Ready IT?

Mobile has a big impact on business models across all industries and most major organizations are addressing how to become a truly mobile enterprise. But what about the IT side of the equation, what does it mean to have mobile-ready IT? Obviously becoming mobile introduces the need to support different technologies, but is that all there is to it? I assert that the most fundamental change brought to IT by the mobile enterprise is the need to integrate literally everything, in near real time. Every channel, every piece of data, every grain of insight, everything. Thinking about what that really means, brings three thoughts to the fore front:
These three thoughts are simple and fundamental imperatives for mobile-ready IT, yet for many IT organizations they are difficult to attain due to the existing portfolio of solutions having been built to meet other requirements in another time. What is needed is a way forward that does not require a revolution of existing systems and processes but rather an evolutionary process that allows those assets to be used as components for mobile solutions.
