It's not about the technology.
You may think that's a strange thing to say at IBM Impact, one of the largest Business and IT conferences, but it was the underlying theme at this morning's Forbes Business Leadership Mini-Main Tent. So, if it's not about the technology, what's it about?
It's about how the technology is being used ... to solve problems, to change lives, to delight customers, etc.
Rich Karlgaard, Publisher, Forbes Magazine, kicked off the multi-speaker session sharing a binary view of the current economy, one in which some companies are winning, some are losing and there's not much in the middle As Karlgaard re-quoted, "This is not a time in world history to be average." Technology is everywhere, great solutions are not. The companies that are winning are embracing new technologies (e.g. mobile, social, cloud, big data and analytics, etc) to change the way they interact with customers.
The interesting aspect of this session was the different perspectives featured. For example:
To sum up, this session was rich in detail supporting the reality that organizations win by understanding the disruptive forces affecting their businesses and customers, and then applying technology that enables them to change the game.
