The grand slam. In the sports world, it’s a coveted yet elusive achievement.
That’s why I’m excited to share the news that IBM has scored its own grand slam of sorts. Gartner has recently positioned IBM as a Leader in the Magic Quadrants of four significant reports, including On-Premises Application Platforms, On-Premises Application Integration Suites, Application Services Governance and Mobile Application Development Platforms.
As our customers, you have traditional, on-premises applications to build, but you also have a need for mobile and cloud-based applications. It is critical that all of these applications work together; otherwise complexity and inefficiency can snowball uncontrollably. IBM is the only vendor rated by Gartner as a leader in all these areas, which speaks to the depth of our application portfolio.
Here’s an example of how WebSphere portfolio offerings work together to help your enterprise build and deploy applications.
First, you need a place to host your applications. Our application platform, WebSphere Application Server, allows you to host on-premise, mobile and cloud-based applications by connecting to both your database on one end and multiple end-user facing web applications on the other. WebSphere eXtreme Scale also allows for long term deployments, dynamic scalability and rapid changes in applications over a short period time.
So, now that you’ve got multiple applications, they need a way to communicate with one another so that the data across all of your applications is consistent. You need systematic application integration functionality supporting robust messaging, multiple B2B protocols and cloud APIs. Enter WebSphere MQ, IBM Integration Bus, and WebSphere Cast Iron.
As you deploy APIs, the design, implementation, publication, operation, maintenance and retirement of those APIs and services need to be governed and managed carefully. IBM API Management allows you to manage the complete API lifecycle and make sure the needs of developers and applications using the APIs are being met.
When you’re developing your application, your mobile development efforts present some unique challenges. Our mobile applications development platform, including IBM Worklight and the MobileFirst platform, help you efficiently develop, run and manage HTML5, hybrid and native apps and automate the integration of those applications into back end systems.
We’re proud of Gartner’s findings, because they reinforce what we already know – we are the only vendor that can offer you a single solution that allows you to create apps for mobile devices, for the cloud and on-premise, and seamlessly integrate them all.
