IBM’s Pulse 2010 starts on Feb 21 in Las Vegas, and I’ll be there with many of my storage management software peers, representing development, product management, services, marketing and yes, sales. There will be new products and features unveiled, as well as a large number of real customers speaking about their experiences and best practices in taking advantage of IBM’s storage solutions. Many of these technologies will also be on display in the mid-market and storage zones in the Exhibit Area; as well as in the hands-on labs.
Wednesday, the 24th is my big day. I’m presenting a session (#1270) at 8:00am (ugh) on a wide range of data reduction techniques. If you’re experiencing dramatic growth in data volumes, or already have too much data and not enough time, capacity, floor space, electricity or people to manage it all effectively, then you should definitely walk away from this session with some actionable ideas to help you get that growth under control.
If you can’t attend, or want a preview, please visit our data reduction web site.
At 9:30am on Wednesday is a presentation (#1997) by a contractor for the United States Department of State on their deployment of Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack in each of the department’s offices, embassies and consulates throughout the world. Each of these entities runs like a small business, and if you can attend you’ll hear how they reduced the amount of data they risk between backups from a week to just a few hours; and how they can now restore entire server volumes in a few minutes instead of 24-48 hours.
And at 3:30pm on Wednesday, Milan Patel will present a Storage Management Overview for Non-Storage Professionals (session # 2080). Storage is quickly becoming the #1 expense category for IT shops, and this will be a great session to learn how effective data and storage management can reduce those costs, freeing up money for more strategic initiatives, while improving service levels through increased application availability and performance.
We hope to see you there. It’s going to be an awesome event.

With the help of our Business Partners, IBM Tivoli solutions help mid market businesses grow. Tivoli delivers security, systems management, and data backup and recovery solutions that provide visibility, control and automation.
While Mid-market companies face many of the same pressures as their larger counterparts, they experience unique challenges in meeting customer demand so they can increase sales and profits, competing effectively against large and small rivals at the same time, and increasing efficiencies while decreasing costs. Midmarket businesses must do all of this while often having less resources.
The goal of this blog is to provide an open forum for discourse, a venue for networking and sharing opinions and announcements. We in Tivoli are committed to meeting the management needs of these businesses. Our intent for this blog is to listen and learn from your feedback, and ensure that our solutions and services meet your needs.
