IBM has created an approach for to implement SOA over time called Smart SOA. This Smart SOA approach is based on understanding that implementing SOA takes time and it allows client’s to start small and growth their SOA over time. SOA Governance has been shown from multiple SOA implementations to be a critical success factor in achieving service reuse and agility of SOA success. Governance is Smart SOA divides the IBM SOA Governance approach into three stages that go with the Smart SOA stages. The idea is that the level of Governance should match the level of SOA implementation. Initially clients need just a small amount of governance to support the initial SOA implementations. Later as SOA complexity increases the level of governance needs to increase.
