Be strong or Borrow strength - a very strong and key message from a Kung Fu Master we met in Jiaxing as part of cultural exchange.
An evening after workshop with clients and a list of To-Do's, it was not so exciting an invitation to visit a Kung Fu school. But, Thanks to my colleague Eva, who persuaded me to join them. And little did I know that it would turn to be my BEST EVENING in Jiaxing.
As our car halted on a big road, I was looking for a stadium kind of place where I expected to meet Kung Fu master. But when we crossed across the road, it lead us to a small street with little houses and people relaxing their evening sitting across the wall adjacent to street. And then, we entered a small shop with all kinds of weapons used in Kung Fu, Tai Chi, etc. The Master, who must be 50+, was a down to earth person with all his might and energy glowing with his big smile as he received us. A simple man, dressed in simple clothes, he was very excited to meet a group of foreigners visiting his shop. He offered to show his skill set with every possible weapon in his little shop. I was super impressed the way he spun a 50 kilo weightlifting rod. It dint stop there. He called one of his students and made him perform the best he had taught. His face lit with glow of 1000W when we cheered and clapped for his student. He encouraged his student to perform more and we were awe struck!
Then, the best part of the day was when he offered to teach us some simple self defense techniques. His every move was very simple yet strong. So strong that it could take one's life. He practices at least 2 hours a day, trains several students, some of whom are famous today and yet he lives life like a fruit hid behind leaves. I could not stop admire his simplicity, depth of knowledge in his subject and passion for what he does.
A drive back in Cadillac was amazing after a wonderful evening spent in Jiaxing. Thanks Waland Electric!
